The Latest Trends in Fitness Gamification

Gamification is the act of taking a mundane task and turning it into a game to improve motivation and engagement. We’ve seen gamification take off in offices, schools etc. So it only makes sense that this tactic would quickly gain popularity within the health and fitness world. One of the most common reasons why people don’t work out or stick to a diet is because they lack motivation. They don’t see having a healthy lifestyle as something fun and engaging. But gamification has the ability to change all of that! Here are some of our favorite examples of gamification that are taking the fitness world by storm!

Zombies, Run
Who doesn’t want to feel like they are being chased by undead creatures when they run? For the unmotivated runner this could be the perfect kick in the butt they need to get up and get running.

Diet Bet
Diet bet turns dieting into gambling. When you sign up, you join a group, place a bet, and as long as you lose a specified body fat percentage (usually 4%) within the given time period, you win a portion of the pot. It’s that simple and is a great way to stay motivated!

FitLight
FitLight tests your reaction time as well as hand-eye coordination. FitLight is a cross between whack-a-mole and Simon (90s kids everywhere should remember this awesome light up game), but for fitness! With a never ending assortment of combinations, you can use FitLight for sports, martial arts, general fitness.

Black Box VR
Black Box VR is the fitness machine of the future. It is a virtual reality system that utilizes weighted cables and a VR headset to help you complete a variety of fitness challenges within a video game-like setting. We think it sounds awesome!
